Dryer vent cleaning, repair, and installation
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, dryers account for about 15,600 structure fires, 15 deaths, and 400 injuries annually. The main leading factor in these fires: failure to perform dryer and dryer vent cleaning. Keeping on top of this basic maintenance is inexpensive insurance for your home and family.
Why do dryer fires occur?
When you dry your clothes it creates lint. The dryer’s filter catches most of the lint but some make it into the venting system. As lint accumulates, it becomes a highly flammable fuel source. When you add in other items, such as birds or animals that may be nesting in your vent the dryer cannot vent properly. Without adequate ventilation, it can overheat and cause the lint and other debris to ignite.
Tips to prevent dryer fires
Clean the lint filter after every load. Once a month, soak the filter in soap and warm water and then scrub it to dislodge any stuck material. Rinse, check for tears, and replace.
Vacuum out the vent once every six months. This entails pulling the dryer from the wall, disconnecting the vent, and clearing it out, which is a service that we often provide. In some cases, the vent may be on the roof, which is an area we can access, as well.
Additional benefits of a clean dryer vent
Your clothes will dry more quickly when your vent is free and clear of lint and debris. In addition to lowering the risk of fire in your home, your appliance will be more efficient which will lower your monthly electric bills. It will also lengthen the life of your dryer.
